HELP & FAQS

What Teeth Whitening do you offer?

We offer the multi-award winning “Boutique Whitening system”.
Special custom-made whitening trays are made that are designed to fit your teeth.
You will place tooth whitening gel in the whitening trays and normally wear the trays overnight.
The whitening gel contains peroxide and will break down stains and make teeth appear lighter.

What are the benefits?

  • Affordable treatment – An affordable way to change the appearance of your teeth
  • A brighter smile – It’s a fast and effective way to transform your teeth and update your smile
  • Safer treatment – It’s always overseen by our professional dentists so you can trust that the treatment is safe
  • Long-lasting results – With good oral hygiene at home, the results of professional teeth whitening are long-lasting.

Do I have to see a dentist or can I go to a beauty salon?

Legally, only a dentist can offer teeth whitening. Would you let a beautician do a filling on you? You will need any underlying dental conditions spotting and rectifying before a course of teeth whitening, and a beautician is not qualified or able to do this.

The whitening gel we use is strictly monitored to give maximum benefit with little to no adverse effect. By letting unqualified people with no knowledge of chemistry and dentistry work in your mouth, you are risking burns, scarring and permanent disfigurement.

Is it Safe?

Yes, when used under the supervision of a dentist. Our products will not damage your enamel.

Will it hurt?

You may experience some form of sensitivity, from mild to moderate discomfort. This is normal. Some people may also feel some slight irritation of the gums or lips.

Both of these effects are temporary and will resolve, given a little time, after stopping or finishing your whitening treatment.

Only rarely do people get severe pain to the point of being unable to continue with the treatment.

Will artificial things in my mouth whiten ie Composite Bonding, Crowns And Veneers?

No, teeth whitening will only work on your natural teeth and not on any type of restorations such as Composite bonding, Crowns and Veneers.

If you are considering having any other treatments like these, we always recommend that you whiten your teeth first.

We can discuss this further at your initial appointment.

Am I suitable?

Most adults are suitable but will need to be assessed by a dentist. The following list should not have the treatment –

  • Restorations on the front teeth will not whiten, and active dental decay and gum disease will need to be addressed before teeth whitening treatment.
  • Pregnant or lactating women.
  • Patients under the age of 18 years old.
  • Patients with exposed cementum or tooth roots should not have the treatment as this will not whiten.
  • Patients with unrealistic expectations.
  • Patients who are unable to be compliant.

What is the PROCESS – Appointments needed?

The following is a typical process but please note this can vary.

1st VISIT – Whitening consult The Dentist will make sure you are suitable for whitening. You may not be suitable or may require remedial work before undertaking the whitening. If happy to proceed then a consent form will be signed and payment taken.

2nd VISIT – Scans/photos taken You will need scans/photos of your teeth taken on which the Whitening trays are made (The Dentist may be able to undertake this in the first visit). Return – After approximately 3 weeks.

3rd VISIT – Fit Whitening trays. On this appointment, the Whitening trays are fitted and the Whitening gels are given. You will be shown how to fill these trays with the whitening gel. You wear these normally overnight at home for 2 weeks Return – After 2 weeks.

4th VISIT – Review Check the final result. Provide Aftercare instructions. Take a final photo.

Do I need to change my diet whilst Whitening?

Normally NO.

What can I do to maintain my white smile after teeth whitening?

  • Practice good oral hygiene – Brush twice a day ideally with an electric toothbrush and clean in between your teeth eg floss.
  • Avoid dietary and social habits – Such as food and drinks like coffee and red wine as well as smoking.
  • Top up whitening gels – Your dentist will advise you on the best maintenance programme for your smile. You may need to top up every 3-6 months.

Is my whitening result guaranteed?

No, we cannot guarantee the results as this will vary from person to person, depending on the original colour of the teeth, the condition of the teeth, the type of staining and compliance with the whitening regime. That being said we have had some GREAT results!
